Images from the Harrington family archives, primarily photos taken by Lynn Harrington (1915 - 1999) and me, his son, Sherwood. Postings to this blog will be photos taken on the date of the post (or on an unspecified date in the month of the post.) "PicShers" is an adjunct blog of "SherWords."

I keep trying to put into words what's so great about this wonderful photo. For you, as a family memory, it would be nice to see your dad's and your faces, but having you both turned toward the vision of the city in the background gives it a whole different quality, as an American moment in time. The cityscape kind of floating back there like a dream is terrific!
Thanks (by proxy from my late Mom), Ruth. This has always been one of my very favorites in Dad's collection of thousands of slides, but, until now, nobody else seemed to give it much thought. You put it into words very well, but I'll add just a little more: even the vignetting from Mom's old camera adds to the sense of the image, and, if only for this vision of the city afloat (as you rightly put it), I'm glad we didn't have chamber of commerce weather for our visit then.
