Carving on Stone Mountain, Georgia, from a cable-lift car, 1964. The carving project was begun in 1916, but at the time of this photo work had been halted for 35 years. The scaffolding, ladders, and wooden stairs that can be seen in this picture (and seen better if you click on it to view a much larger version) were being erected in preparation for re-starting the work, which happened in July, '64. Google Earth will show you the mountain and its surrounding parkland, centered on this scene, if you enter these co-ordinates:
