April 18

Sherwood, 1986
I served as tour astronomer on a group excursion to Australia during 1986's apparition of Halley's Comet, which was best seen from the Southern Hemisphere. One of the tourgroup members was a young professional photographer, who had just changed his emphasis from rock-n-roll to science. UPDATE, added May 7th: The original negative for this photo was found in an old box in the attic a few days after this version was posted here. That image -- and a comment from the photographer! -- can be found over in SherWords.
